PHILADELPHIA- May 1, 2008 – The Delaware
Valley Stroke Council (DVSC), The Stroke Authority in the region,
will ring the opening bell at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX)
on Tuesday, May 6 to kick off Stroke Alert Day. Nurses from Albert
Einstein Medical Center will be on the trading floor to do blood
pressure screenings for PHLX employees and traders.
Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz , NBC 10’s chief
meteorologist, is teaming up with the DVSC and the PHLX to get lifesaving
messages of stroke prevention and stroke warning signs to the public.
He will ring the opening bell along with Dr. George C. Newman, chairman
of the Department of Neurosensory Sciences at Albert Einstein Medical
Center, and Co-Chair of the DVSC Medical Advisory Board.
According to Dr. Newman, who is the originator of Stroke Alert
Day, this day represents the combined efforts of healthcare providers,
local organizations and volunteers whose goal it is to reduce the
impact of stroke in their community by concentrating their efforts
into a single day to saturate the community with one simple message:
Don't stall — make the call 9-1-1.
Remarks will begin promptly at 9:20 a.m., 10 minutes before trading
begins.
