PHILADELPHIA – March 6, 2008 - The Philadelphia Stock Exchange
(PHLX) announced today that 33,131,940 equity option contracts traded
in February, an increase of 37.34%, compared to the same year-ago
period when 24,124,606 contracts traded. Equity option volume in
February was down 37.52% compared to last month when 53,023,914
contracts traded.
Market share for equity options in February was 14.82%. The average
daily volume for equity options was 1,665,697 contracts.
Volume on the six World Currency Options (WCOs) soared 2588.56%
in February when 350,830 contracts traded compared to 13,049 contracts
during the same year-ago period. Volume decreased 48.22% compared
to the previous month when 677,576 contracts traded.
Index options volume for February increased 0.02% when 431,030
contracts traded compared to the same year-ago period when 430,940
contracts traded. Volume in index options in February decreased
28.27% compared to the previous month when 600,900 contracts traded.
Equity volume for February increased 28.17% when 124,828,809 shares
traded compared to the same year-ago period when 97,396,887 shares
traded. Equity volume for February decreased 23.97% compared to
the previous month when 164,183,312 shares traded.
