PHILADELPHIA – February 6, 2008 - The Philadelphia Stock
Exchange announced today that equity option volume in January nearly
doubled when 53,023,914 contracts compared to the same year-ago
period when 27,620,859 contracts traded. This represented a 91.97%
increase. Equity option volume in January increased 32.49% compared
to the previous month when 40,020,981 contracts traded.
Market share for equity options in January was 16.13%. The average
daily volume for equity options was 2,524,948.
Volume on the six World Currency Options (WCOs) jumped 39.74% compared
to the previous month when 484,895 contracts traded. Volume soared
6,852.35% in January when 677,576 contracts traded compared to 9,746
contracts in the same year-ago period.
Sectors index options volume for January jumped 22.55% when 600,900
contracts traded compared to the same year-ago period when 490,340
contracts traded. Volume in sectors index options in January jumped
43.89% compared to the previous month when 417,615 contracts traded.
Equity volume for January increased 38.15% when 184,183,312 shares
traded compared to the same year-ago period when 118,848,098 shares
traded. Equity volume for January increased 19.17% compared to the
previous month when 137,773,131 shares traded.
