PHILADELPHIA – November 6, 2007
- The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity
option volume in October jumped 59.25% when 42,216,206 contracts traded
compared to the same year-ago period when 26,510,197 contracts traded.
Volume was up 51.62% year-to-date. Equity option volume in October
was up 46.07% compared to the previous month when 28,901,559 contracts
traded.
Average daily volume in October for equity options reached 1,835,487contracts.
PHLX market share in October was 15.74% Market share without ex-dividend
volume was 15.52%.
Equity volume for October skyrocketed 122.84% when 166,454,605 shares
traded compared to the same year-ago period when 74,695,733 shares
traded. Equity volume for October increased 16.63% compared the previous
month when 142,715,588 shares traded. Year-to-date equity volume increased
101.73%.
Volume on the six newly traded World Currency Options (WCOs) rose
79.57% in October when 424,911 contracts traded compared to 236,633
contracts traded during the previous month.
WCOs ended October with an open interest of 530,428contracts.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for October totaled 1,087 contracts, a decrease of 36.28% compared
to the previous month when 1,706 contracts traded. Volume in October
decreased 88.49% compared to the same year-ago period when 9,445 contracts
traded.
Sectors index options volume for October increase 24.04% when 704,597
contracts traded compared to the previous month when 568,018 contracts
traded. Volume in sectors index options in October increased 18.89%
compared to same year-ago period when 592,661 contracts traded.
