PHILADELPHIA – October 4, 2007 - The Philadelphia
Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity option volume
in September jumped 39.04% when 28,901,559 contracts traded compared
to the same year-ago period when 20,786,135 contracts traded. Volume
was up 50.52% year-to-date.. Equity option volume in September was
down 22.48% compared to the previous month when 37,284,364 contracts
traded.
Average daily volume in September for equity options
reached 1,521,135 contracts.
PHLX market share in September was 15.81%. Market share without
ex-dividend volume was 14.10%.
Equity volume for September skyrocketed 194.16% when
142,715,588 shares traded compared to the same year-ago period when
48,516,901 shares traded. Equity volume for September decreased
25.06% compared the previous month when 190,449,326 shares traded.
Year-to-date equity volume increased 99.01%.
Volume on the six newly traded World Currency Options
(WCOs) rose 49.22% in September when 236,633 contracts traded compared
to 158,576 contracts traded during the previous month.
WCOs ended September with an open interest of 282,592 contracts.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized
currency options for September totaled 1,706 contracts, a decrease
of 68.98% compared to the previous month when 5,499 contracts traded.
Volume in September decreased 80.90% compared to the same year-ago
period when 8,930 contracts traded.
Sectors index options volume for September decreased
61.15% when 273,121 contracts traded compared to the previous month
when 702,976 contracts traded. Volume in sectors index options in
September declined 52.42% compared to same year-ago period when
574,025 contracts traded.
