PHILADELPHIA – August 6, 2007 - The Philadelphia
Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity option volume
in July reached a record high when 40,921,003 contracts traded.
This represented a 117.55% increase compared to the same year-ago
period when 18,810,223 contracts traded. Equity option volume in
July increased 25.02% compared to the previous month when 32,731,306
contracts traded.
Average daily volume in July for equity options also reached an
all-time high of 1,948,619 contracts.
Market share for equity options in July was 17.01 %. PHLX market
share for equity options rose 4.68% from the previous month and
26.19% compared to the same year-ago period.
PHLX market share in July without ex-dividend volume was 15.67 %
when 37,707,117 contracts traded.
Equity volume for July increased 107.01% when 125,884,015 shares
traded compared to the same year-ago period when 60,809,343 shares
traded. Equity volume for July decreased 9.59% compared the previous
month when 139,242,825 shares traded.
Volume on the six newly traded World Currency Options (WCOs) rose
106.45% in July when 47,148 contracts traded compared to 22,148
contracts traded during the previous month.
WCOs ended July with an open interest of 75,105 contracts.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for July totaled 10,617 contracts, an increase of 113.36% compared
to the previous month when 4,976 contracts traded. Volume in July
decreased 6.33% compared to the same year-ago period when 11,335
contracts traded.
Sectors index options volume for July increased 18.22% when 659,268
contracts traded compared to the previous month when 557,674 contracts
traded. Volume in sectors index options in July rose 11.58% compared
to same year-ago period when 590,822 contracts traded
