PHILADELPHIA – July 9, 2007 - The Philadelphia
Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity option volume
in June reached a record high when 32,731,306 contracts traded.
This represented a 64.79% increase compared to the same year-ago
period when 19,862,026 contracts traded. Equity option volume in
June increased 9.28% compared to the previous month when 29,951,
482 contracts traded.
Average daily volume in June for equity options also reached an
all-time high of 1,558,634 contracts.
Market share for equity options in June was 16.25 %. PHLX market
share for equity options jumped 12.3% from the previous month and
23.76% compared to the same year-ago period.
PHLX market share in June without ex-dividend volume was 14.98 %
when 30,176,654 contracts traded.
Equity volume for June increased 103.47% when 139,242,825 shares
traded compared to the same year-ago period when 68,435,260 shares
traded. Equity volume for June increased 11.12% compared the previous
month when 125,308,868 shares traded.
Volume on two newly traded World Currency Options (WCOs) declined
17.02% in June when 22,837 contracts traded compared to 27,520 contracts
traded the previous month.
WCOs ended June with an open interest of 58,067 contracts.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for June totaled 4,976 contracts, a decrease of 25.15% compared
to the previous month when 6,648 contracts traded. Volume in June
decreased 52.56% compared to the same year-ago period when 10,488
contracts traded.
Sectors index options volume for June decreased 2.97% when 557,674
contracts traded compared to the previous month when 574,749 contracts
traded. Volume in sectors index options in June declined 35.93%
compared to same year-ago period when 870,374 contracts traded
