PHILADELPHIA – June 6, 2007 -
The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity option
volume in May rose 22.81% when 29,951,482 contracts compared to
the same year-ago period when 24,387,765 contracts traded. Equity
option volume in May increased 15.98% compared the previous month
when 25,824,063 contracts traded.
Market share for equity options in May was 14.47% when 29,951,482
contracts traded. PHLX market share in May without ex-dividend volume
was 12.92 % when 26,743,783 contracts traded.
Equity volume for May increased 10.77% when 125,308,868 shares traded
compared the previous month when 113,124,578 shares traded. Equity
volume for May increased 58.14% compared to the same year-ago period
when 79,422,957 shares traded.
Volume on two newly traded World Currency Options (WCOs) rose 3.54%
in May when 27,520 contracts traded compared to 26,580 contracts
traded the previous month.
WCOs ended May with an open interest record of 53,674 contracts.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for May totaled 6,648 contracts, a decrease of 48.36% compared to
the previous month when 12,874 contracts traded.
Volume in May decreased 61.40% compared to the same year-ago period
when 17,224 contracts traded.
Sectors index options volume for May increased 13.99% when 574,749
contracts traded compared to the previous month when 504,198 contracts
traded. Volume in sectors index options in May declined 45.69% compared
to same year-ago period when 1,058,319 contracts traded
