THE PHILADELPHIA STOCK EXCHANGE ANNOUNCES OCTOBER VOLUME

PHILADELPHIA- November 8, 2005 — The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity option volume in October jumped 69.20% when 16,865,958 contracts traded compared to the same period last year when 9,968,300 contracts traded. Equity option volume increased 29.68% compared to the previous month when 13,006,001 contracts traded.

Volume in sectors index options in October increased 69.41% when 626,877 contracts traded compared to 370,032 contracts traded in the same year-ago period. Sectors index options volume in October increased 17.81% compared to previous month when 532,127 contracts traded.

Equity volume for October decreased 65.52% when 88,488,204 shares traded compared to the same year-ago period when 256,672,374 shares traded. Equity volume in October declined 18.82% compared to the previous month when 108,999,320 shares traded.

Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options for October totaled 9,894 contracts, a decrease of 31.77% compared to the same year-ago period when 14,502 contracts
