PHILADELPHIA- September 7, 2005 — The Philadelphia Stock Exchange
announced today that equity option volume for August reached 11,917,768
contracts, up 55.88% from the same year-ago period when 7,645,319
contracts traded. Equity option volume for August increased 14.22
% compared to the previous month when 10,433,910 contracts traded.
Volume in sectors index options in August increased 26.44% when 501,925
contracts traded compared to 396,970 contracts traded in the same
year-ago period. Sectors index options volume in August increased
20.13% compared to previous month when 417,830 contracts traded.
Equity volume for August decreased 39.35% when 115, 705,116 shares
traded compared to the same year-ago period when 190,775,212 shares
traded. Equity volume in August rose 2.24% when compared to the previous
month when 113,169,612 shares traded.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for August totaled 11,238 Volume decreased 36.24% compared to the
same year-ago period when 17,628 contracts traded
