PHILADELPHIA- August 4, 2005 — The Philadelphia
Stock Exchange announced today that equity volume for July increased
4.54% when
113,169,612 shares traded compared to the previous month when 108,257,009
shares traded. Equity volume in July declined 42.13% when compared
to the same year-ago period when 195,549,088 shares traded.
Equity option volume for July reached 10,433,910 contracts, down
6.5% from the previous month when 11,160,829 contracts traded. Equity
option volume for July increased 13.29 % compared to the same year-ago
period when 9,210,088 contracts traded.
Volume in sectors index options in July declined 23.48% when 417,830
contracts traded compared to 546,071 contracts traded in the previous
month. Sectors index options volume in July decreased 5.39% compared
to the same year-ago period when 441,628 contracts traded.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for July totaled 13,253 Volume decreased 13.81% compared to the same
year-ago period when 15,376 contracts traded
