PHILADELPHIA –August 2, 2005 – Brigid O’Neill-Lagier,
CEO of the American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region,
rang the opening bell at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange on
Tuesday, August 2 to promote the “Route 56” blood
drive.
The “Route 56” theme is designed to encourage people
to donate blood every 56 days to ensure an adequate blood supply
for people in need of life-saving blood. The current campaign runs
through September 18. During the Penn-Jersey Region’s “Route
56” summer campaign, all presenting blood donors between June
6 and September 18, 2005 will be given a limited edition “Route
56” keychain AND have the chance to play the Scratch &
Win Game where one lucky blood donor will scratch-off the super
summer giveaway – A YEAR’S SUPPLY OF GAS (up to a $2,000
value).
The PHLX is hosting the blood drive in conjunction with Cozen and
O’Connor and Brandywine Construction and Management Inc.
Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110
pounds or more are eligible to donate every 56 days. Donors can
give blood at any one of nearly 200 bloodmobiles sponsored by business
and community groups in southeastern Pennsylvania and in New Jersey
weekly, or at one of nine community donor centers. To make an immediate
appointment for a Red Cross blood drive this week, please call 1-800-GIVE
