PHILADELPHIA – October 5, 2004 –Barry Shane,
the third generation owner of Shane’s Candy Co., the oldest
candy shop in Philadelphia and perhaps the oldest in America, rang
the
opening bell on the floor of the Exchange today, October 5.
Mr. Shane also distributed samples from his shop
that has been located at 110 Market Street since 1876.
The appearance of Barry Shane marks another in a yearlong series
of prominent people invited to ring the opening bell every month.
Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street kicked off trading for the New
Year on the floor of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange on Friday, Jan.
2.
