PHILADELPHIA — Sept. 28, 2004 — The Philadelphia Stock Exchange and the Greater Philadelphia Mentoring Partnership at United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania hosted the seventh annual "Trade for the Kids" event today, September 28.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson talked with 20 at-risk Philadelphia youths at a breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. in the Exchange’s Boardroom. He then kicked off the trading day at a special bell-ringing ceremony on the trading floor. Remarks began at 9:20 a.m.

 

"Trade for the Kids" enables youths to be exposed to a business environment while being mentored by an actual floor trader. The students will be able to witness firsthand how securities are traded.

Greater Philadelphia Mentoring Partnership at United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the number of quality mentoring relationships between young people and adults/older youths by supporting existing and emerging mentoring initiatives. The Greater Philadelphia Mentoring Partnership, a service of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, is an advocate for the expansion of mentoring and a resource for mentors and mentoring programs. The Greater Philadelphia Mentoring Partnership works with more than 200 different mentor programs throughout the region by promoting mentoring relationships through media campaigns and providing technical assistance and training to programs.
