PHILADELPHIA – Sept. 14, 2004 – Peter
Nero, founding music director of the world renowned Peter Nero and
the
Philly Pops®, rang the opening bell on the floor of the
Exchange on Tuesday, September 14.
The Philly Pops is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary under
the direction of Mr. Nero, a Grammy-award winning conductor, composer,
arranger and master pianist. The Philly Pops is the largest independent
Pops orchestra in the United States. Their concerts always present
classical music, swing, Broadway, blues and jazz with musical virtuosity
and a sense of humor.
The appearance of Peter Nero marks another in a yearlong series of
prominent people invited to ring the opening bell every month. Philadelphia
Mayor John F. Street kicked off trading for the New Year on the floor
of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange on Friday, Jan. 2.
The Philadelphia Stock Exchange was founded in 1790. The PHLX trades
nearly 2,000 stocks, 1,500
